Safaricom-owned M-Pesa services are now back after hours of downtime on Tuesday1. The company said Kenyans can now continue enjoying the services1. Earlier on when this writer tried to transact through M-Pesa, a message popped up indicating; “The parameters of data sources are null null.” The same error was experienced while trying to transact through the M-Pesa app1. “M-PESA is undergoing scheduled maintenance,” the pop-up indicated1.

According to The Star, the downtime lasted for an hour. The service was unavailable on the M-Pesa app, USSD code, and SIM card tool2The company has not yet provided any details on the cause of the outage1.

If you are still experiencing issues with M-Pesa, try updating your customer menu by following these steps3:

  1. Switch on your phone if it is off.
  2. Go to the phone’s SIM toolkit.
  3. Select M-Pesa option.
  4. There will be several options on the M-Pesa menu. Select Account.
  5. Select Update my customer menu. This is under accounts.
  6. Now, enter your M-Pesa PIN.
  7. Press enter to complete the process.
