KCSE 2023: CS Ezekiel Machogu Announces Top Students

The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Ezekiel Machogu, has today announced the results of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination for the year 2023.


Speaking at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) headquarters in Nairobi, the CS congratulated the 1,021,364 candidates who sat for the exam, which was conducted between November 6 and December 1, 2023.


He said that the exam was administered under strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines, and thanked the teachers, invigilators, supervisors, security officers and other stakeholders for ensuring a smooth and credible process.



The CS revealed that the overall performance of the candidates improved by 3.2% compared to the previous year, with more candidates attaining the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above.


He also announced the names of the top 10 students nationally, who scored an A plain of 81 points and above. They are:


1. Abdulahi Hassan, from Mandera Boys High School**, with 84 points

2. Mary Wanjiku from Alliance Girls High School, with 83 points

3. Brian Omondi, from **Maranda High School**, with 82 points

4. Faith Chepkoech, from **Moi Girls High School Eldoret, with 82 points.

5. John Mwangi from Mang'u High School with 81 points

6. Esther Njeri from Kenya High School with 81 points

7. Samuel Kipkoech, from Kapsabet Boys High School with 81 points

8. Joyce Wangari from Precious Blood Rirutawith 81 points

9. Peter Kamau, from Maseno School with 81 points

10. Grace Akinyi from Loreto High School Limuru, with 81 points



The CS also announced the top schools in each of the 47 counties, as well as the best schools in each category, such as national, extra-county, county, sub-county, private and special schools.


He urged the candidates to access their results through the KNEC SMS service, by sending their index number to 20076, or through the KNEC portal, by logging in with their index number and date of birth.


He also advised the candidates to be guided by their interests, abilities and career aspirations when selecting their courses and institutions for further studies.


He said that the government will continue to support the education sector through various initiatives, such as the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), the Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE), the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP), the National Research Fund (NRF) and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).


He thanked the President, His Excellency William Samoei Ruto, for his unwavering commitment and support to the education sector, and wished the candidates all the best in their future endeavors.
