Detectives have made a grisly discovery in their search for the killer of Rita Waeni Muendo, a university student who was brutally murdered in her Roysambu apartment on January 13.
On Sunday, police recovered a human head from a dam in Kiambaa, Kiambu County, which they believe belongs to the slain student. The head was wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped in the water, according to the police.
The discovery of the head has given the police a clue on the possible whereabouts of the suspect, who is still at large. The police said they are following leads that the killer may have fled to Kiambu County after committing the heinous crime.
Waeni, 23, was a third-year student at Kenyatta University, pursuing a degree in education. She was found dead in her rented apartment by her sister, who had gone to check on her after failing to reach her on phone for two days.
The police said Waeni had been stabbed several times in the chest and neck, and her body was partially burnt. They also said there were signs of a struggle in the room, indicating that Waeni had tried to fight off her attacker.
The motive of the murder is still unknown, but the police suspect that Waeni may have been killed by someone she knew. They are appealing to anyone with information that may help in the investigation to come forward and assist the police.
