A 49-year-old man was brutally murdered by a group of assailants over a land dispute in a village in Kinango, Kwale county on Monday.
The victim, identified as Mumbo Kaphutsa Chiti, was attacked in Nguliku village where he had gone to inspect his land, according to police.
He was ambushed by the attackers, who were armed with machetes and stones, and hacked and stoned to death in broad daylight.
Witnesses said the attackers were known to the victim and had been involved in a long-standing feud over the ownership of the land.
They said the attackers fled the scene after committing the heinous crime, leaving the victim’s body lying in a pool of blood.
Police officers from the Kinango Police Station arrived at the scene and launched a manhunt for the suspects.
Kinango Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge confirmed the incident and said that investigations were underway to arrest the culprits.
He said that the motive of the murder was a land dispute that had been pending in court for several years.
He urged the residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to seek peaceful resolution of land conflicts.
He also warned that anyone found to be involved in the murder would face the full wrath of the law.
