Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed the Kamwene group within Azimio as a dead end, saying that it is a divisive and doomed political strategy.
Kalonzo, who is a key ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga in the Azimio coalition, said that the Kamwene group, which consists of Mount Kenya leaders from the Opposition, is a terrible political philosophy for anyone to use.
He accused the group, led by Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, of trying to create a parallel power base within Azimio, and of undermining the unity and cohesion of the coalition.
He said that the group was playing into the hands of the ruling Jubilee party, which he claimed was afraid of facing a united Azimio in the 2024 general election.
He advised the group to drop the idea of Kamwene, which means “ours” in Kikuyu, and to work together with the rest of the Azimio partners, who he said were committed to delivering a transformative agenda for the country.
He said that Azimio, which means “consensus” in Swahili, was the only viable option for Kenya’s future, and that it had the support of the majority of Kenyans across the regions and communities.
He urged the Mount Kenya leaders to embrace Azimio as a national platform that would address their interests and aspirations, and not to isolate themselves in a tribal cocoon.
He also called on Raila to intervene and rein in the Kamwene group, saying that he was the undisputed leader of Azimio and that he had the final say on the coalition’s direction and decisions.
