It will be a tense day for Savannah Guthrie as she attends the wedding of a former NBC producer and friend, Jen Long, who has also invited her disgraced ex-co-host Matt Lauer.
The Today Show anchor, who has not spoken to Lauer since he was fired in 2017 for sexual harassment, initially turned down the invitation because she 'refused to be in the same room' as him, sources told DailyMail.com.
But she later changed her mind and decided to support her longtime friend, who worked with both of them for 21 years before leaving to join The Tonight Show.
Guthrie and Lauer were once close friends and co-anchors, but their relationship soured after he was accused of sexually assaulting and harassing several women at NBC.
Guthrie, who announced his firing on air, called the allegations 'shocking and appalling' and said she was 'heartbroken' for the victims.
Lauer, who has denied any wrongdoing, felt 'betrayed' by her comments and has been living a low-key life in The Hamptons with his girlfriend Shamin Abas.
The pair have not seen each other since his departure, but they will have to face each other today at the wedding of Long and her fiancé Reid Sterrett, along with several other NBC employees.
Long, who is now back at Today, is said to be close to both Guthrie and Lauer, and wanted them to be part of her special day.
Sources said Guthrie will try to avoid any confrontation with Lauer and focus on celebrating her friend's happiness.
'She is not looking forward to seeing him, but she is not going to let him ruin her friend's wedding,' one source said. 'She is going to be civil and polite, but she is not going to pretend they are friends.'
