The leaders of a cult that claimed to cure homosexuality by forcing its followers to have heterosexual sex with the group leader have been arrested in Spain’s Caceres province. The cult, run by a psychologist and his wife, offered “heterosexualization treatments” that involved the use of drugs and coercion to induce “specific states of consciousness” and manipulate the victims’ sexual orientation.

The arrests were carried out by the national police and the customs surveillance officers of the tax agency, who also searched two addresses in Caceres and Madrid, where the treatments were performed. They seized 100,000 euros in cash and various narcotics, such as marijuana, MDMA, ayahuasca and peyote. The cult leaders are accused of crimes against moral integrity, public health, sexual freedom, workers’ rights, psychological injuries, professional intrusion, illicit associations, coercion and money laundering.

According to the police, the cult propagated hate speech against homosexuality, considering it a disease that could be cured through abstinence and forced sex with the sect leader. The cult leaders exercised “complete control” over the victims, who lost the ability to decide where to live, what studies to pursue, or whom to marry. The investigation is ongoing to gather more information and identify more victims12
