Georgia police released the identities of the three children and the suspect found dead Wednesday inside a parked car after a “possible murder-suicide.”
The children discovered in the vehicle were siblings: Arianny Rodriguez (13), Chadal Rodriguez (11), and Carlos Rodriguez (9), according to the Gwinnett County Police.
The suspect has been identified as Jose Plasencia (56), of Norcross, Ga.
Plasencia and the children’s mother, Karina Rodriguez, had previously been in a relationship together and shared another child. He was not the father of the children killed.
Hours before the murder-suicide
Hours before the tragic incident, Plasencia met with the victims’ mother, her three children, and the child they shared at a local hospital, according to the police. The child they shared needed medical attention.
“After some time, the mother agreed to let the three children go with the suspect to grab a bite to eat while she remained at the hospital,” the Gwinnett County Police said in a statement.
The discovery
Shortly after 1 a.m., an officer found Plasencia and the three children dead inside a car at Lucky Shoals Park in Tucker along the pedestrian trail. The officer had called out to the people inside the car but received no response. Upon investigation, the officer discovered the four bodies.
A GoFundMe for the children
A GoFundMe campaign was set up for the children by their mother. She is seeking help with the funeral expenses for her “little angels.” Her goal is to send the three children to the Dominican Republic and provide them with a “Christian burial.”
“I am devastated with my heart in pieces,” she wrote. “My world was my children, and I was mother and father to them so that they never lacked anything.”
Our thoughts go out to the Rodriguez family during this heartbreaking time.
