A police officer in Nakuru county has been arrested for allegedly shooting dead a barmaid and injuring three other people in a nightclub on Wednesday, December 12.
The officer, identified as Nicholas Musau, based at Nakuru Central Police Station, reportedly had a dispute with the barmaid over a KSh 16,000 bill for the drinks he had taken at Vega Club.
According to the police report, Musau opened fire at around 2am, killing the barmaid, named Ann Maina, and wounding two men and a woman. He then fled the scene, leaving behind his pistol with two rounds of ammunition and six spent cartridges.
The police later apprehended Musau and locked him up at Kaptebwa Police Station. The injured victims were taken to Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, where one of them underwent surgery.
The incident has sparked outrage among the residents of Nakuru, who condemned the officer's actions and called for justice for the victims.
The police have launched investigations into the matter and promised to take appropriate action against the officer.
This is not the first time that a police officer has been involved in a shooting incident in Nakuru county. In October, a police officer shot and killed his wife and two children before turning the gun on himself in Njoro. The motive behind the murder-suicide was not established.
